Getting hired as a rookie consultant at least used to mean working 12-hour shifts, making PowerPoints late at night, and so on. But now it means working little to no while watching Netflix, exercising, or even sleeping.
It may sound like the perfect plan but these new hires are the highest achievers of their class. And this working system is not ideal for them. which results in them drifting away from the industry. In a recent study, it is shown that only after 10 years 20% of the consultants are still working in the industry.
The slack work and uncertain economic environment forced big consulting firms such as McKinsey and Boston Consulting Group to lay off and delay the starting dates of the new hires. But they still need to make sure the company will have future senior partners in 10 to 15 years.
